MaMA’s Story & Vision

We are honored to be in a building constructed with great care and love to be the community’s spiritual center.  Built by innovative spiritual seekers in 1840, the structure went through various incarnations and had been sitting empty for three years when we found it in 1998.  Though the building needed repair, we sensed the original builders’ dedicated spirit. After a decade of renovation, we have renewed its original intended function.  We continue the legacy to make MaMA the 21st-century edition of what the builders desired to establish– a spiritual & creative community center.

Our vision is based on the ancient Greek healing temples where wellness encompassed the whole human being – body, soul, and spirit.  In that vein, we offer classes in yoga, kirtan, NIA, meditation, and tai chi as well as in dance, music, theater, and visual art.  We are home to the Nowist Society, a non-denominational, non-sectarian gathering of seekers and the Ancient Living Traditions Institute which seeks to bring the wisdom of the ages to a contemporary audience.   We also host a variety of community events as well as weddings, birthday parties and celebrations of life.

In the spring of 2010, MaMA’s Café will open, serving healthy, organic local food and drink.

MaMA welcomes you to be a part of the family.
