THOMAS WORKMAN, certified sound healer and founder of Ancient2Future Sound Healing, multi-instrumentalist and educator, has been contributing to the cultural life of the Hudson Valley and beyond since 1988. A performer with roots in jazz, and improvisation with folk instruments of the world, he has played extensively for theater, and has performed with Steve Gorn, Roswell Rudd, Pete Seeger, Karl Berger, Arm-of-the-Sea Theater (Musical Director) and The Vanaver Caravan, among others.
Many years of studying esoteric healing traditions led Thomas to become certified as a sound healer. Many of the wind and percussion instruments that he plays, such as didjeridu, berimbau, bone flutes, bamboo and nose flutes, fujara, conch shells, West African harps (Donso Ngoni), all come from healing traditions. Thomas is reknowned for his sound journeys for large groups as well as for his healing sessions for individuals.
These monthly Sound Healing sessions, gathering upstairs at MaMA the third Saturday of each month, will be active with chanting and movement as well as receptive with folks lying down. Each session will have a theme and we will begin each time with a brief verse or passage, especially from Rudolf Steiner, Robert Powell or Judith Von Halle, that is relevant to help us awaken to the meaning and strengthen us for the challenges of 2012, together in community.
