Physical Culture with Terry Fister
Saturdays at 8 and Sundays at 9 in the morning
Beginning September 11, 2010
This class has it all from power and strength to dance and yoga. There’s something for everyone in this class, with music to move you and exercise props to strengthen and stretch you. This class format includes cardio, strength and power, flexibility training, and core stabilization (a little like Pilates). All levels are welcome.
A little something about Terry:
Terry Fister has been involved in the fitness industry for nearly 25 years. Following a professional dance career, the likely segue for him was fitness and since then he has worked tirelessly as a service provider and manager of several fitness facilities. In NYC, Terry has taught group exercise at some of the premier fitness facilities in the city. He is also a certified personal trainer, and has directed fitness programs at several fitness centers in NYC and Santa Fe, NM.
Terry’s fitness philosophy can be described as an integrated approach to fitness, where it is not just about how fast you can go or how much weight you lift, but also about proper alignment, joint function and proper movement patterns along with a focus toward developing the body-mind connection. “Without proper alignment and joint function, the journey toward complete fitness becomes painful. One should be open to discovery about their bodies, minds and spirits and hopefully experience joy in the process.”

Pre-College Portfolio Prep Class at MaMA
Purpose: to develop a portfolio for college art program entrance.
Wednesdays from 3:30 – 6:00 pm September 15 - November 3, 2010
Class will culminate with a trip to the Mill Street Loft’s Portfolio Review Day
Minimum # of students – 5 (Pre-registration required)
Cost per student: $285.00
Additional Model Fee: $32.00
Entrance into College art programs requires a portfolio of a student’s work, between 15 – 20 recent drawings, painting and collages. Portfolio reviewers from top colleges say they look for pieces that demonstrate a student’s technical skills and creativity and they want to see observational drawings done from life (not photos). They appreciate a range of subject including the human figure, landscape or still life in a variety of media… charcoal, pencil, watercolor, pastel and paint. Most schools want to see drawing skills first and foremost.
This course will focus on the specific needs of the pre-college entrance portfolio. We will work to develop completed pieces observa tional still lifes, life drawing from the model, and individual composition studies. The end of the course will focus on identifying each student’s interests and targeting schools to meet with during portfolio review.
This course will be taught by Kristin Flynn, an arts educator since 1998 with a special interest in helping students develop their skills in the visual arts, guiding them toward further creative and educational opportunities. She received a BFA from Parsons School of Design and an AS from Rochester Institute of Technology. She has been awarded residencies at Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont and Jentel Artists Residency in Banner, Wyoming.
Currently Kristin teaches Drawing and Composition and Fashion Design at SUNY Ulster. She has also taught at Marist College and been a visiting critic for Parsons School of Design. Her paintings and drawings are exhibited regionally and in Manhattan where she is represented by the Cheryl McGinnis Gallery.
